If you’re planning your first trip to Prague, you’re going to love it!
This beautiful city is full of fairytale architecture, cobblestone streets, cozy cafes, and more beer than you could ever drink in one sitting (trust me, we tried).
We spent a few days exploring Prague on a recent Central Europe trip (read all about it here), and packed in just the right mix of iconic sights, unique experiences, and downtime to soak in that old-world charm.
If you have 3 days, this itinerary will help you hit the highlights.
If you’re lucky enough to have a fourth day, I’ll share my top day trip recommendation too.

Where to Stay in Prague

Prague is a walkable city with great public transportation, so you have some flexibility when choosing your hotel.
That said, I recommend staying near the Old Town or the Lesser Town (Mala Strana) to be close to the main attractions.
Here are three great options:
★ Residence U Malvaze (Little King Hotel) – we stayed here & love it!
- Charming boutique hotel just steps from the Charles Bridge. Spacious rooms, A/C, coffee in-room, and a great shower.
- No elevator, but the staff helps with bags. Bonus: you can walk through the on-site restaurant straight onto a bustling pedestrian street.
- This historic hotel has modern touches, a delicious breakfast, and one of the best locations in the city.
- Highly rated (9.6 on Booking and 4.8 on Google!
- A more modern, design-forward option in New Town. Great if you prefer something trendy but still central. Walkable to Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square.
- This hotel is only 700m from Prague Main Train Station and a 5 minute walk to Výtopna Railway Restaurant (where everything arrives at your table via train)!

Day 1: Get Oriented & Soak in the Views
Morning & Afternoon: Walking Tour with a Guide
Start your trip with a guided walking tour of Prague’s historic center.
It’s the best way to get your bearings and learn about the city’s rich (and often dramatic) past.
Most tours cover Old Town Square, Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge, Jewish Quarter, and parts of Prague Castle.
There is so much fascinating history here, you’ll love having a local guide to explain the stories behind everything you’re seeing.
Evening: Sunset River Cruise

There’s nothing quite like floating past Prague’s iconic skyline at golden hour.
I recommend a small-group or private cruise that includes wine or local snacks for the full experience.
- Option 2: Book a similar sunset river cruise (5-stars)
Day 2: Beer Spa, Cafes, and a Medieval Feast
Morning: Leisurely Start or Explore Solo
After a busy first day, take your time in the morning.
Grab a cappuccino in one of the city’s cozy cafes and enjoy people-watching in the Old Town Square.
Tip: koláče (kolache) is a Czech pastry that pairs exceptionally well with coffee. Do some sightseeing on your search for a bakery that sells them!
Afternoon: The Famous Beer Spa

This is a must-do Prague experience.
You’ll soak in a bubbling beer bath (made from water, hops, and brewer’s yeast) and pour unlimited Czech lager straight from your own tap.
A perfect mix of spa day and happy hour.

Evening: Dinner & a Medieval Tavern Show
Wrap up the day with a medieval-style dinner show—live music, fire performers, hearty Czech food, and ale served in pewter mugs.
It’s touristy, sure, but also a lot of fun and a memorable way to experience Prague’s medieval roots.
🍗 Find tickets and info for the medieval tavern experience here!
Day 3: Castle Views & Hidden Gems
Morning: Prague Castle & Gardens

Visit the largest ancient castle in the world. St. Vitus Cathedral is breathtaking, and the views over the city from the castle grounds are iconic.
Don’t miss the charming Golden Lane and stroll through the castle gardens if they’re open.
Optional Stop: Vrtba Gardens
If you’re into beautiful photo spots and quiet hideaways, this terraced Baroque garden in Mala Strana is a true hidden gem.
Afternoon: Museum or Free Time

Depending on your interests, there are lots of unique museums in Prague.
Explore the Kafka Museum, Mucha Museum, the Museum of Communism, the Sex Machine Museum (lots of giggles here) or take a self-guided beer tasting tour at local pubs.
And if you’ve never tried Mead before, head to the Muzeum medoviny for a mead tasting and learn about how honey wine has been produced in this region since the 6th century.
Or just wander and enjoy Prague’s vibe—it’s a city that rewards aimless exploration.
Day 4 (Optional): Day Trip to Kutná Hora or Český Krumlov
If you have a fourth day, take a break from the city and explore one of these beautiful Czech towns:
Kutná Hora

Once a silver mining capital, Kutná Hora is home to the stunning St. Barbara’s Cathedral and the famous Bone Church, a small chapel decorated with the bones of over 40,000 people.
It’s eerie, fascinating, and only about an hour from Prague.
Book a day tour to Kutná Hora here
Český Krumlov

This riverside town looks like a painting, with a massive hilltop castle and winding medieval lanes.
It’s a bit farther from Prague (2.5-3 hours each way), but well worth it if you’re up for a longer day trip.
Prague Restaurants We Liked:

U Pivrnce: funky spot, serves traditional Czech dishes + must try the beer ice cream!
Kolacherie Celetná: must try the traditional poppyseed pastry: koláče (kolache) – pairs well with coffee
Beer Restaurant U Zlatého Hada: feels a little touristy, but honestly the food & service was great!
Ferdinanda: Underground cave restaurant!
Velkopřevorský Mlýn: lovely spot overlooking the canal (they serve beer ice cream here, too)
Výtopna Railway Restaurant (where everything arrives at your table via train)! (not the highest quality place, but we thought the concept was really fun)
Švejk restaurant – it doesn’t have the best reviews, but we loved drinking Pilsner beers here and people watching!

Made a mistake in previous comment. It's square of peace - náměstí Míru - not square of republic - náměstí Republiky

I strongly disagree with tip to visit museum of comunism, torture and sex machines - that is just tourist BS, while I recommend to visit Riegers gardens(Riegrovy sady) and the whole area of square of republic and Jiřího z Poděbrad. Beer spa is also questtionable. Dont be a tourist, be The traveller
