What Makes Flipside Luggage Different?
Dual-Opening Design
The Flipside opens from both the top and the middle, which means you can pack it however you like and access what you need without tearing apart your entire suitcase.
Adjustable Movable Partition
Inside the bag is a zippered divider that you can shift to any ratio: 60/40, 90/10, or completely open.
It’s designed to separate your clean and dirty clothes, but I found even more useful ways to make the most of it:
- Business + Vacation Trip: Keep your workwear separated from your casual outfits.
- Two-Climate Travel: For example, 3 nights in Paris (cool) + 4 nights in Nice (warm)—keep each climate’s outfits on different sides.
- Beach + City Combo: One side for sunhats, swimsuits, and sandals; the other for dresses, nicer shoes, and dinner-wear.
Plus, if you don’t want to use the partition at all, just unzip it fully and choose how to open the bag based on your space (top-open in a tight hotel room or clamshell when you’ve got space to sprawl).

I personally tested it in multiple airline sizer bins at the airport—this bag fits most North American carriers and several international ones.
⚠️ Note on weight: Most North American airlines don’t weigh carry-ons. But if you’re flying within Europe, Australia, or Asia—especially budget airlines—double-check limits before choosing this bag.

What I Packed In It
I used packing cubes and filled the Flipside carry-on with:
Main Cube (clothing):
- 3 bottoms (jeans, black pants, beige pants)
- 3 tops (2 long sleeves, 1 cardigan)
- 3 short sleeves (t-shirts and a tank)
- 1 black maxi dress
Accessories & Extras:
- 1 swimsuit, 1 pair pajamas
- Undergarments (6 pairs of socks, 6 pairs underwear, 1 bra)
- Hair tools, travel slippers, and a pair of men’s size 13 shoes (for testing!)
Toiletries and tech gear:
Stored in the top compartment and paired with my personal item (I used the Away Everywhere Bag) for electronics, cords, sunglasses, and a jacket.
Realistic capacity:
You’ll be good for 5–7 days of travel with this setup. If your trip is longer, just do laundry once during your trip.
The Cons
While I found a lot to love, here’s what could be improved:
- Interior Color: It’s black, which makes it harder to see your stuff. I’d prefer a lighter interior.
- Weight: At 8 lbs, it’s not lightweight. But it’s standard for its size, and I didn’t find it burdensome.
- Partition Takes Up Space: Yes, it slightly reduces packing room—but the organizational trade-off is worth it.
- Design Aesthetic: It’s boxier and more utilitarian than sleek. Not a fashion piece, but it gives you more usable space inside.
Final Thoughts: Is the Flipside Carry-On Worth It?
If you want flexibility, smarter organization, and real functionality in your suitcase, the Flipside is a standout.
I’ve tested a lot of carry-ons, and this one pleasantly surprised me. I love the front pocket functionality and the flat handles ensure it will fit in tighter airline sizer bins.
The fact that it’s a little more ‘boxy’ compared to some of the modern rounded carry-ons means its interior space is more efficient.
There are definitely light bags out there to choose from, but the weight of this bag is similar to most bags in this size-range.
